This was my very first ADF ritual ever, and I was all by myself. I was very nervous, as I had not been able to completely memorize the ritual and wasn’t sure it would work. I thankfully had remembered all of the items that I needed, although the item I had originally thought of for the Well got changed almost at the last minute – to a much better solution.
I used one of Anthony Thompson’s Celtic Solitary write-ups as a base, and adapted to suit me. I also decided to do a working to dedicate my altar space for my workings at this time – it made sense, since I’d had the altar for a long time just hadn’t dedicated it to anything yet.
Manannan Mac Lir was the Gatekeeper, with Aengus Og and Aine as the Deities of the ritual. For the offering of silver, I had created a triskelle out of some of my 20 gauge silver wire. I like the idea of offering something that I made whenever I can.
Because this was my first ADF ritual, I took an omen for every being/entity that was called. Which means I had a lot of runes to evaluate for the omen’s meaning. The overall feeling that I came away with is that they know that I am changing my focus from nothing patterned to a pattern, and are supplying me with the energies that I need to make this change, as well as protecting and insulating me while the changes occur inside as well.
